Car Insurance Cadillac (Car Insurance). When the "check engine" light comes on...?

When the "check engine" light comes on...? When the check engine light comes on wat does it usually mean? Do I just need to change the oil or is something wrong?

No it's not usually low oil or change oil, you have a problem and you have to get the code read and the problem fixed and the light will go off. Besides, whatever the problem is now, it is causing more damage to your car, possibly ruining the catalytic converter and that's expensive. usually low oil... something in the system has gone wrong..... There are many causes, too many to list, that is why the in car diagnosis is used in modern cars, the last time mine came on it a cracked vacuum line. The light comes on start up to check all the systems then goes out if nothings wrong.

Cadillac . Why is my engine almost stalling?

Why is my engine almost stalling? 1999 Corolla with 159,000 miles. The car was running great until a few months ago. After a number of large snow storms where the car was covered in snow on the street (here in NYC), the car starting showing problems when either just coming out of idle/park, while coming to a stop, or when idling at a light. (If I put the car in park, the shuddering of the engine stops and returns to normal). It would feel as if the engine was about to stop and then it would resume normal function after reaching a higher speed, only to show stalling symptoms again while approaching a stop. When driving on the highway, the engine showed no problems, and operated quite well at a sustained speed of 65 mph. However, when climbing a relatively steep hill, the car could not reach speeds above 50 for the first 2/3 of the hill. In fact, it felt as if the car may completely stall at some points. Upon reaching a certain speed while still on the hill the stalling stopped, and the car again accelerated without any problems. What could this be? I'm on my way to the mechanics tomorrow and I would like to hear what you have to say. (I'm thinking is has something to do with the fuel pump and/or the O2 sensors. Thanks in advance for your help. car insurance.

Cadillac . Who's at fault for car accident?

Who's at fault for car accident? My husband was driving in slushy snow when he came up over a hill with little sight distance (maybe 10 ft) when he saw a car backing up because he couldn't make it up the hill. The country road is not a full 2 lanes, maybe equivalent to 1 1/2. The other car was in the middle of the road and stopped and put on his flashers when he saw my car coming. My husband attempted to avoid the car, but couldn't. The other guys insurance co. is putting us 100% at fault. It seems to me the person at fault is the person whose negligence caused the accident (like being stuck in the middle of the road.) Should I keep fighting with them or just go to my state's (NY) insurance Department? car insurance.

Cadillac . Instructions on Changing the CV Joint on a Ford Escort

The Ford Escort uses a CV (constant velocity) joint to connect the spinning axle to the front turning wheel hubs. The CV joint allows the wheels to flex and change vertical direction without the straight axle being stressed beyond certain tolerances. When the CV joint begins to fail, the assembly between the wheel hub and axle must be replaced.
Remove the Wheel
Lift the car with a standard tire jack (used to change a flat to the spare), then position a jack stand under the car frame right behind the wheel. Lower the jack onto the jack stand. Remove the wheel, then remove the brake caliper. Escorts have front disk brakes, so removing the caliper simply means removing two Allen screws and lifting the caliper off the disc. The disc will then slide off the five mounting bolts.
Remove the Drive Shaft Bolt
With the disc brake removed, you can see the cotter pin securing the drive shaft nut to the shaft bolt. Remove this pin with pliers. Do not worry about breaking the pin, it will have to be replaced when reassembling the axle. Remove the drive shaft nut. This will take some effort--you may need a compressed-air impact wrench to do the job.
Remove the Steering Assembly
Use a tie rod puller to remove the tie rod bolt, a clamp-and-pull screw tool used to remove the tie rods connecting the steering rack to the steering knuckle. Secure the clamp to the tie rod and turn the tie rod tool level counterclockwise. This will pull the bolt out and release the tie rod. Remove the bold securing the sway bar with a socket wrench and move it out of the way.
Remove the CV Joint and Shaft
The CV joint is attached to a shaft connected to the transmission. This entire assembly will be replaced. You may need a mallet to knock the shaft loose so you can pull it straight out. Don't use any lubricants or metal solvents to free the axles--you want to avoid any contamination around the steering assembly that will have to be cleaned off thoroughly later.
Reassembly
Putting the steering back together is the reverse of disassembly, using a new CV joint and drive axle, and a new cotter pin. Going in reverse in the exact order is important (install new CV joint and axle, assemble the sway bay and tie rod, install the drive shaft bold, disc rotor, caliper and wheel) so that everything goes together without one part being in the way of another.

Cadillac . What Is the Purpose of a CV Joint?

Most people learn what the purpose of a CV joint is only after it breaks. The sound of metal clicking and popping from front car wheels during a turn often indicates the need to replace CV joints. A CV joint allows a car to maintain continuous power along turns, without which, front-wheel drive would not work effectively.
Function
CV, or constant velocity, joints are an essential component of front-wheel-drive cars. They are built into the front axle of cars and, on occasion, can be found on rear axles as well. They join the main drive axle to the shaft attached to the front wheels. Their purpose is to efficiently and continuously transfer power from one side of the shaft to the other, at a range of angles. They are near the front wheels and are protected by black bulbous rubber boots filled with MoS2 grease. To find them, look under the front wheel wells.
History
The first CV joints were invented hundreds of years ago. One of earliest was used in the transmission of a Strasbourg Cathedral clock tower built in 1351, according to "Universal Joints and Driveshafts: Analysis, Design, Applications." It effectively moved the hands of the clock at angles to the driveshaft. Today, major companies such as the GKN Group in Birmingham, England, and Lohmar, Germany, produce them for cars. New ideas and designs for CV joints are always in the works.
Features
As a driver turns the steering wheel, the angle formed across the CV joint changes, yet power is smoothly and continuously delivered to the wheels. It is the design and work of the CV joint that allows for this smooth and constant delivery of energy to the wheels regardless of the angle at which the driver is turning. The CV joint is also an integral part of the suspension. The joints enable power delivery to the wheels even as they bounce up and down along the terrain.
Characteristics
CV joints must transfer power efficiently; otherwise, energy would be lost and gas mileage would plummet. Efficiency is created through a number of designs employing precision-made components. The design theme of CV joints employs a ball-and-socket structure with bearings.
Replacement
CV joints are needed for steering and usually last a long time; however, if the rubber boot surrounding the CV joint should get damaged, the joint probably won't last much longer. Dirt and debris from the road get into the joint and begin scraping the bearings. Next, the bearings lose their shape, further damaging the joint. Finally, the telltale clicking sounds come with each turn.
